HOW DOES A CRACK OCCUR?

Skin cracks, which are seen in almost one out of every 3 women, occur frequently during periods of weight gain and loss and during pregnancy. Skin cracks are caused by the tearing of the middle layer of the skin called the dermis. Normal skin contains 80% collagen and 4% elastic fiber. Collagen breakdown and elastin damage occur in striae, and when the crack is touched, it feels as if there is no skin in that area.
Skin cracks can occur during pregnancy, adolescence, bodybuilders, those who are undergoing hormone therapy, or as a side effect of some drugs. Striae can be seen in all parts of the body. However, it is most common in areas of the body where the amount of fat is high. It most commonly appears on the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, back, calves, and hips. It is more common in women. Some skin cracks occur in 75-90% of women during pregnancy.

HOW IS CRACK TREATMENT APPLIED?

In patients who are applied fractional laser, which is the most popular and new method in the treatment of stretch marks, visible results are usually obtained in 3 sessions. Although no treatment is completely sufficient, the use of combined treatments may increase the chance of success in some patients.
